There is a hole in the floor!!

We are removing a load bearing wall and in order to carry the weight of the second floor and roof, we need to add a few footings. This will bring our house up to 2012 earthquake standards. I'm not an architect or an engineer, but I do understand the laws of physic somewhat. The last thing I want, is to have the second floor fall down into the ground floor.

A load-bearing wall (or bearing wall) is a wall that bears a load resting upon it by conducting its weight to a foundation structure.

Open the door into the kitchen and was shocked to see a big pile of dirt.

We are ready to start again. Plans are 100% approved and now we're ready to move forward. The concrete is marked where the footers are going to go.
